I am a musician by trade, and since graduating from my Master's Degree in Musical composition I have become a piano, theory, and composition teacher. I am caring and sensitive teacher, and I take the progress of all my students very seriously. I am passionate about a wide variety of musical styles, and my favourite classical composers include Vaughan Williams, Howells, Shostakovich, Ravel, and Palestrina. In terms of pop music I enjoy listening to Radiohead, Pink Floyd, and The War on Drugs. I also read widely, and my favourite writers include Ernest Hemingway, Barbara Kingsolver, Elena Ferrante, William Boyd, and Paulo Coelho.
I have a Master's Degree in Musical Composition from the University of Bristol; this not only involved an excellent set of musical skills but also excellent oral and written English skills. As a teacher, I have a strong track record in improving the skills and literacy in my students, and in their music exams none of my students have ever achieved lower than a Merit.
I have a relaxed and friendly demeanour, and I am hugely sensitive towards my students' circumstances and supportive of their individual needs. I provide a tailored approach to each student, and I am happy to work towards examinations or take a more relaxed approach to a subject and explore it more widely depending on your wishes. That said, I have a strong track record of helping pass their examinations, and I can give you a good understanding of how to get high marks!
I teach English as a Foreign Language and Music - my musical skills particularly involve stringed instruments, piano, theory, composition and improvisation. My approach is usually quite holistic, and I would aim to help students have a good understanding of many different aspects of music. Please get in touch with me if you would like to discuss this further!
