I have a degree in financial mathematics graduating in 2018. I've been giving higher and ordinary level leaving and junior certificate for 6 years now in Ireland. I am an advising examiner to the sec for correcting Maths exams in Ireland's equivalent to GCSE and A levels. I have just recently moved to London
This is my sixth year giving Maths grinds and I am an advising examiner to the sec for correcting Maths exams in Ireland's equivalent to GCSE and A levels. I ran a grinds school in Ireland for the last 6 years teaching up to 20 students at any one time. I have taught students in university Maths in engineering, science and maths degrees over the last 6 years
My approach varies based on the needs of the student. I have had students looking to get A1's who need to perfect their answering, and other students who are trying to make sure they just pass the subject. In my experience all students are able to grasp any topic if approached from the right angle. I find in the majority of my students is not that they lack intellectual ability, but rather that they lack an ability to organise the amount of information into more manageable 'chunks', and that is what I aim to do. I create a personalised plan to manage the amount of work needed to be covered, as well as highlighting at the beginning the areas that will need extra focus and time. After each session I set a past exam question based on the topic we have just covered and correct it with the student at the start of the next session. I aim to help the student understand the topic rather than just rote learning it off as I feel for Maths and Science subjects that is the best way to ensure the highest grade no matter the exam question.
