Home Tuition for English and Special Needs in Caerphilly

I am currently working as a Literacy Tutor to adults who would like to improve their English and Literacy skills. In addition, I teach ESOl (English as a foreign language) to foreign nationals. I also I manage a reading group for adults who struggle with reading or have gaps in their learning experience.
Before this ,I worked for 21 years as a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with children with speech, language, communication and learning difficulties.
I have lots of experience of working with children in schools. My background in Clinical Language Sciences (B.Sc.. Hons) has given me a solid knowledge foundation in which to help children acquire the skills that are needed to read. I am very skilled in teaching phonic skills and sight words to children of all ages.
I have had many years experience of working with children who have additional needs.

I now use all the skills and background I gained as a Speech and Language Therapist to help both adults and children with reading, English and literacy.

I have an easy going, fun, friendly and outgoing personality. I relate well to children and have the skills to put them at ease.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored a wide range adults and children in the following areas:
> Children with additional learning needs
>Children with speech, language and communication skills
>Adults with additional learning needs
>Teaching English as a foreign language
>Supported and help prepare students doing GCSE English
I have written language programmes to help teachers support children who are struggling to access the national curriculum in terms of speech sounds, reading ,verbal comprehension, semantics, sentence structure, morphology, vocabulary, inference and prediction .

Tutoring Approach

I have an easy going, yet structured approach. I am friendly and approachable. I understand that all students have different learning styles. I develop students' potential at a pace which is developmentally appropriate for them. Small, achievable steps are always encouraged.

Depending on the age of the student, fun and encouragement are used as a vehicle for learning. I establish goals that are needed to be reached .I work in a relaxed, but motivating manner. I believe that building confidence is key ;by providing the learner with lots of positive feedback.

I mix with people from all different cultural and religious backgrounds and therefore understand the challenges of learning a new language and living in a different cultural environment can bring. I have and have had, lots of cross cultural experience; through travel and maintaining a diverse, and multicultural friendship group- which can only add to a positive learning environment.
