I am currently a student at the University of Bournemouth studying English in my second year. I have a great passion and knowledge surrounding English Literature and Language, with understanding of the current UK GCSE curriculum. I have a drive for teaching others, and confidence in my teaching abilities.
I have tutored one GCSE and one primary school student within my previous experience. Both have reported great feedback to me.
GCSE- I tend by firstly outlining the marking criteria, so that the student is able to gain a real understanding of what is expected of them, and it also helps me to explain how we can incorporate this into their writing and essay skills when practicing. I also like to take a look into their current grades, in order to gain an understanding of what needs improving so that these parts can be focused on, making full use of the time that the student and I have together. In terms of English Language, I find that with students, practice makes perfect. This will include going over past papers, developing vocabulary, essay skills and grammer in order to accomplish the expectations needed for high grade at GCSE level. With English Literature, similarly an essay style will be practiced, but also open discussions and debates on the readings, to encourage the student to strive for their own ideas which will help them greatly when writing a well- developed argument or character analysis at GCSE level. Along with this, revision. Every student has a different set up in their mind for how content is remembered, if the student does not know what this is yet I will help them to develop a strategy. Then this revision will be tested every week to enforce this into the students memory, little by little. I did my GCSE's 5 years ago now and my A-levels 3 years ago. I understand that this is a challenge and a stressful time for students. But I aim to break down every single part of this subject for the student, so that on the exam days they feel prepared and confident.
