Home Tuition for Maths and English in Markfield

I am a motivated, friendly and family orientated person. I have a passion for sport and overcoming challenges which is apparent in my many achievements: multiple marathons, many half marathons, a 24 (hour running race- completing 66 miles and raising over £2,000 for charity) and most recently a half ironman triathlon. Alongside these achievements, I have a love for music and in this area I sing and play multiple instruments: including practising piano and guitar. Additional to this, I love spending time with my family and my most precious moments are spent with my nieces and nephew.

Tutoring Experience

I completed my PGCE in 2021 (during COVID which made it a very trying experience) whilst earning a coveted letter of commendation for my first assignment where The University of Leicester commented that my assignment indicated my ability to link theory to practice at a very high academic level. During my PGCE and my bachelors degree, I was provided with the opportunity to experience a variety of different school environments around Leicester and Leicestershire. Throughout this time, I built a range of skills and curriculum knowledge which I have advanced through my first three years of teaching. More recently, I have been teaching at a Leicester primary school in year 5 and have become an integral part of the teaching team where I have advanced my teaching practise at the same time as taking on many advanced responsibilities. My progression at this school has been fantastic so far and I continue to learn each day I am in the school.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to learning is taken from my own experiences in sport and in life. During my life, I have always believed that mistakes are good as long as you learn something from them and move forward without these mistakes weighing you down. This mentality has worked in my classrooms where students who lack confidence in a particular area, or lack confidence in themselves, develop and flourish during their time with me. At the same time, I believe in the fact that learning should be fun, this does not mean that my lessons contain messing around (as I am a strong believer in rules, routines and respect) but I always try and approach the day with a smile, a joke and I understand that the children are not machines but they are children, so, if I have the opportunity to make them smile, or play maths learning games which build enthusiasm, then this is what I shall do.
