Waiting list for September now open
I am a full-time mathematics tutor with several years experience of online tutoring. I use a sophisticated combination of video calling and a shared online whiteboard, meaning that students get a fully interactive experience and feel properly involved and engaged with their learning. I have a very strong subject background (Masters degree in Mathematics with German), and am passionate about what I do. My students know that I care deeply about their progress, which helps build a relationship of trust – crucial when working together on a subject that they may be lacking confidence in.
I am fully DBS checked and have up-to-date qualifications in safeguarding young people and exam invigilation. I am also a registered Edexcel examiner.
Extensive and proven track record of helping students to improve their grades, with many achieving two grades above their target.
Experienced and highly competent, online tutor, where I use sophisticated online whiteboard software to collaborate on their work and set them interactive and engaging tasks.
Worked for Bristol Rovers Football Club in a project tutoring and mentoring cared-for students on matchdays.
Home tutor at Pathways Learning Centre, where I provide tutoring for students who are unable to attend mainstream school due to behavioural or medical reasons.
Former mathematics teacher at two Bristol secondary schools, implementing a range of innovative teaching and learning strategies.
Worked for Bristol Cathedral School on key interventions, helping Year 12 resit students and struggling Year 11s.
My initial priority is to pinpoint where students’ knowledge gaps are, as misunderstandings on the key ‘building blocks’ of mathematics (such as times tables, fractions, or negative numbers) are the most common reason for struggling further into their studies. Once a sufficient understanding of these has been achieved, I prefer to take a collaborative approach. In this, students come to me with what they want to work on, and I supplement this using my extensive bank of teaching resources, adding in some problem-solving to show applications of the topic and links to other topics on the syllabus.
