My name is Ruby and I recently graduated from the University of Nottingham with a high 2:1 in English (Language and Literature). Whilst I was at university I was Captain of my volleyball team, a contributor to the student magazine and a member of the Fashion Society. I am an avid reader and want to share my love for reading and writing with my students, as well as to show them that English can be accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
I am new to online tutoring but have supported my friends and family through their GCSE’s and A levels by identifying gaps in their knowledge and focussing our study efforts there. I’d also like to think that, having been a full-time student for the last 17 years or so, I’ve learned a bit about what makes a good teacher, and a good lesson.
I take a holistic approach to teaching; I identify the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in a chosen qualification; then I identify the areas a student needs to improve on and rank them in terms of priority; finally I learn what my student enjoys the most in their subject and capitalize on this to create links between different topics and tasks. Having achieved this, I will go to my students for feedback and implement feasible suggestions into my teaching strategy so that both I, as a teacher, and my student feel that our time has been spent productively and enjoyably.
