I am currently a lecturer and researcher in modern European History working in Higher Education. I am also an experienced teacher and Head of Department for History with a passion for helping students to fulfil their potential. I have a love and enthusiasm for both History and Government and Politics, which I have taught for a decade in a high performing school in Kent. I am keen to help motivate students towards outstanding results and a thorough enjoyment of the subjects I specialise in. I have also worked at Ofqual (the qualifications regulator) as a subject specialist and have extensive experience in quality management at Higher Education level, therefore I have a strong grasp of what it takes to be successful and what markers are looking for.
I am an experienced History teacher and have spent four years as a successful Head of History in a Kent Grammar School, in addition to recent work as a lecturer at the University of East Anglia. In my teaching experience, I have only ever received Ofsted outstanding grading for my lessons and I have spent the last five years running additional support sessions to help students of varying ability to achieve the very best results. As a Head of Department I led an already successful department through a rapid rise in A* results at both GCSE and A Level, whilst also all students in building self esteem and to realise their potential. I have a doctorate in Modern European History, extensive research credentials and teaching qualifications at secondary and higher education levels.
My tutoring methods are adaptable to the needs of the learner, whether it is to enable a student to form a successful essay technique or to help with revision strategies ahead of important exams. The sessions I give will be interesting, innovative as the situation demands it and directly relevant to the needs of the student. Most of all, I aim to build a love of the subject, but with a clear remit of achieving excellent results and high standards. My preference is to build the confidence of my students over time and to enable them to not only succeed in exams, but also to feel enriched and confident.
