DEPUTY HEAD OF SIXTH FORM & KS5 CHEM AND BIO TEACHER
Hi there! I am a graduate of Neuroscience (Bsc) from King's College London. I have over 8 years tutoring experience from KS2 to A-level. I have completed a PGCE in Secondary Science at the University of Greenwich and am working as a KS5 Chemistry teacher at a London secondary school and sixth form. I am also the deputy head of sixth form and the Most Able co-ordinator in the school. I am friendly, committed and passionate about science. I am a very well articulated individual and wish to help whenever and wherever possible.
I have completed a PGCE in Secondary Science. I am currently working at a school as an A-level Chemistry/Biology teacher. I am also the deputy head of sixth form as well as the Most Able Co-ordinator in the school, which means that I lead on coming up with and implementing strategies across the academy that pushes sixth formers and our KS3/KS4 most able students to achieve more than their expected grades, especially those who are most disadvantaged. I have taught children aged between 5 -12 years at two summer schools. I also provide private tuition for Science students between 11-18 and have been doing so for the past 7 years.
Specs I cover: AQA and OCR A.
I am a perfectionist who likes to break down each subject into basics to ensure the student understands every aspect of the topic clearly. I ensure the student undertakes enough practice questions so that they are comfortable and familiar with the exam that they are about to take. I make sure that the student understands how to gain every mark in each exam question, highlighting common mistakes as well as mistakes specific to the individual so that they are not repeated in the real exam.
My subject-specific teaching approach is to make sure students understand the context of what they are taught so that they can best apply the knowledge to exam questions, where application of knowledge is crucial. I also make sure that the student does not have any worries or concerns about their exam through the process of familiarising them with the paper and the types of questions they are to be asked in the exam. I teach exactly the way I would expect to be taught and make sure no detail of the subject is left uncovered.
What sets me apart from other tutors is that as standard, I also teach students how to create a study timetable, how to manage their time effectively so that they are able to undertake the most efficient revision outside of our tutoring sessions, as well as teaching students the difference between active and passive revision and learning techniques, and how to implement them. I have also developed my own technique on how to use exam questions effectively to revise for A-Level Chemistry specifically which has been proven to boost my students' grades.
I am also available for my students to contact me outside of our tutoring sessions with any questions they might be struggling with as they revise independently.
