Secondary Languages Teacher with QTS (Specialism in Spanish KS3, GCSE and A-Level and French KS3 and GCSE), covering Edexcel and AQA. I am also able to teach English KS3 and GCSE (AQA).
I have 7 years teaching experience within the classroom, including a recent role as Head of Spanish and French at a Secondary and Sixth Form school in Staffordshire. In addition, I have worked as a private tutor since 2017 working with students on a 1:1 basis, from mainstream settings and less traditional settings also (including neurodiverse learners), particularly with a focus around exam support- achieving excellent outcomes for all involved (reviews and references provided).
I am driven to improve outcomes for my students; whether this is to improve current grades, work towards targets or even to start from the beginning and/or fill in any missing academic gaps. I have worked with a diverse community of students therefore I am flexible and enthusiastic to support all types of learners on their academic journey!
I gained QTS in 2015, and have since worked across diverse educational settings in London, Essex and currently within West Midlands- I have consistently achieved fantastic exam results and academic outcomes from my students, as well as instilling confidence and trust in not only my learners but their parents/carers also who know that their young person is being well supported.
As well as a PGCE in Secondary Education, I have an Masters in Hispanic Studies specialising in Translation, History, Politics and Language- I therefore try to make learning a truly fun and engaging experience by getting to know my students and appealing to their interests to make their own educational journey a fun and worthwhile experience.
Finally, I have taught a variety of exam boards but I am a specialist with Edexcel and AQA (however, I can easily accommodate other exam boards if required, including IGCSE and OCR).
I teach on a 1:1 basis predominantly online, but can also teach from my home if this is more appropriate. When teaching online I use Teams, Zoom and Skype, something I have done since 2017, a concept which has become more used and common with teenagers since lockdown learning.
I promote active learning through use of authentic resources, such as video, music, and creative memorisation techniques that will really help vocabulary and grammar stick. We engage in role-play activities to build confidence in speaking and manipulating the language.
I give regular feedback to the young person and communicate with parent/carer at the end of each session so everyone is aware of progress, targets and next steps, and I set regular homework and revision tasks (including mini mocks and exam style questioning).
Finally, to aid revision and recap, I always send the documents and Powerpoint used in the lesson to the student at the end of each session so they can save this in their folder and return to it when they need it, as well as signposting students to appropriate resources so they can study and revise in their own time.
Cancellation Policy: If a lesson is cancelled within 24 hours of its proposed start time, the lesson will be considered complete and payment will be due. If however it is outside this time, I will try to rearrange with you to find another suitable time so we can still carry out the lesson.
