Hi, I'm Sam. I'm originally from Manchester and now live in London.
I am 26 and I have recently completed my PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Bath. Prior to that, I graduated from the University of York with a 2:1 Master's degree in Chemistry with Biological and Medicinal chemistry. For my master's project, I worked in the York Structural Biology Laboratory (YSBL).
In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis and playing games (both board and video). I also enjoy travelling and seeing live comedy/theatre.
In my A-levels, I achieved one A* (Mathematics) and two As (Chemistry and Biology) at A2-level. I also have an A at AS-level in Modern Russian History. For my GSCEs, I achieved 2A* and 9As.
At the University of Bath, I have taken part in numerous teaching and demonstrating opportunities. This has made me a commited, reliable and patient tutor. During my teaching time at the University of York, I have run tutorials for five different small groups, assisting their understanding in undergraduate level 1st and 2nd year chemistry.
Furthermore, I have supervised seven Master's students and six summer students. This involved assisting them in the laboratory, guiding them in their chemistry and helping them to structure their dissertations.
I am a friendly and approachable person. I aim to take a patient and considerate approach. I do not adopt a hard line disciplined approach to teaching as this is not conducive to a productive environment. I am happy and willing to explain things multiple times if needs be, and happy to adapt to each individual's teaching needs.
