I studied for my undergraduate in Maths at the University of Manchester where I specialised in Statistics and Actuarial Science.
I since went on to study at the University of Sheffield for an MSc in Statistics and at Manchester Metropolitan University for my PGCE in Secondary Education.
I have also studied music to a high level and have played in several Championship Section Brass Bands as well the Halle and Ulster Orchestras.
Whilst at university I gave private brass lessons to children and adults which led to me wanting to train as a teacher.
I have worked in several schools across the North West (usually secondary or further education colleges) in both the state and independent sectors.
I began tutoring privately when friends would ask me for extra help for their kids. This then progressed as interest grew.
I am very good at explaining complex ideas in an easy to understand way even if you currently think you are weak in the subject.
Tutees have also benefitted from advice and proof reading when applying to Oxbridge/Redbrick Universities.
I am currently head of maths and further maths at a 6th form college.
My approach varies by individual- I have several years experience of classroom teaching where differentiation has played a huge role. When working one-to-one I am able to target specific areas of weakness or latch on to a certain analogy or way of thinking which makes the whole topic seem suddenly 'easy'.
