I’m an experienced and enthusiastic tutor with over 12 years of teaching expertise in History, Politics, and English. My specialism is History, and I’ve successfully delivered a wide range of GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, and IB specifications. I also teach A Level Government and Politics, as well as English Literature and Language at GCSE and IGCSE level.

As a GCSE (English) and A Level (History) examiner for both AQA and Edexcel, I bring in-depth understanding of what examiners look for - insight that helps my students achieve their full potential.

Tutoring Experience

I have over 12 years of experience teaching in high-performing and selective schools, including Exeter School, Torquay Boys’ Grammar School, and The King’s School, Chester. Throughout my career, I have delivered consistently strong exam results and outstanding lessons. I believe engaging teaching and targeted, constructive feedback are essential to unlocking student potential.

I am highly experienced in delivering a wide range of exam board specifications. These include Edexcel, IGCSE, and AQA GCSE History; AQA, Cambridge, and Edexcel IGCSE English Literature and Language; and OCR, AQA, and Edexcel A Level History. As an examiner for AQA A Level History and Edexcel A Level Papers 2 and 3, I bring valuable insight into exam technique and assessment criteria that helps students perform at their best.

In school, I have also led Oxbridge enrichment sessions for Sixth Form students and supported applicants preparing for the History Aptitude Test. I offer tailored guidance for UCAS personal statements, including proof-reading and advice on writing compelling applications.

Alongside classroom teaching, I have worked as a tutor since 2016, supporting students with a wide range of needs, including home-educated learners and those in mainstream education. Whether working as a primary tutor or supporting school-based learning, I aim to build subject confidence and secure strong academic progress. Tutoring Approach

I am committed to delivering engaging, well-structured sessions that equip students with the confidence and skills to achieve their full potential. Highly adaptable in my approach, I tailor each lesson to the individual needs of the student, with a strong focus on both subject knowledge and exam technique.

I plan my tutoring sessions with the same care and precision as classroom lessons. Using a variety of teaching methods, I aim to develop students’ subject-specific understanding alongside their wider literacy and analytical skills. My lessons are delivered via Google Slides and include a range of interactive, engaging activities designed to promote excellent progress.

Most of my students choose online tuition for its flexibility and convenience - it allows them to learn from the comfort of home and eliminates travel time. However, I can offer a limited number of in-person sessions for students local to Exeter. Please get in touch for further details.
