With over thirty years experience I am still a young enthusiastic teacher. I have led teams of teachers to improve standards across many subjects and I have children of my own so I understand the demands on young people today.
I am a History and English teacher who is passionate about learning. I have taught in a range of schools, as head of department for ten years, and a senior leader for teaching across the whole school in a large secondary school. I have worked with exam boards and Welsh government on curriculum design. I was commissioned by BBC bitesize, and the Arts council Wales to develop support materials for history teaching as well as literacy and numeracy. I have taught a variety of exam boards at both GCSE and A' level as well as co-authoring a history textbook and other history publication's. I have also worked as a peripatetic tutor for children outside of school education - teaching both English and Maths GCSE. I have recently successfully completed a Masters in History so I understand the pressures of studying from both perspectives. History is my first love, whilst developing young minds to reach their potential is my passion.
I believe learning is fun and achieving at learning is addictive. Breaking tasks into bitesize chunks with consistent focus on success criteria can hook pupils in, constant feedback that allows them to develop is also essential.
