¡Hola! My name is Sandra, I'm a Spanish native speaker from Spain, and I have been currently living in the UK for six years. I am a graduate in English Philology, a beautiful career in which English is meticulously studied at a linguistic, historical and literary level, and equipped me with an in-depth knowledge of English language and culture.

Additionally, I'm fascinated with my language and culture. I undertook a Master in Specialised Translation where I use my passion for English and Spanish to build bridges among countries, people and culture. My exposure and knowledge about both English and Spanish have well prepared me to engage my student in the rewarding path of learning, breaking old fashioned perceptions about this process and making it an enjoyable and gratifying experience.

Tutoring Experience

I have several years of teaching English to students at high school level and adults preparing for the IELTS.
At Cardiff University, I taught Spanish to a small group of students at beginners and intermediate level.

Tutoring Approach

The way of approaching my method to teach is malleable. Each student is unique in the way they acquire knowledge and how they retain the information. My approach is based on my student's needs and target, tailoring the content I create in a way that suits both their learning process and language competence.

Once upon a time, I was also a student myself and I experienced years of English classes based solely on grammar rules and a list of words that needed to be learnt as vocabulary. Not having able to see results, I had to look for different ways to immerse myself in the language and culture. This experience shaped me as a teacher by striving for teaching student a language they are practically and realistically able to speak and write.

My teaching approach is based mainly on the practical side of the language. My students experience a tailored interactive and dynamic class, with a great variety of exercises and real-life scenarios to prompt their ability to speak and cultural understanding. A conversational and writing approach that not only will give them the opportunity of understanding how grammar works but also outputting language. The emphasis is set on fluency not so much as accuracy. Errors are part of the learning process and, by shaking the shyness off when practising a language, it will let fluency to take over and make you better at it.
