Hi, I am a fully qualified, retired teacher and have been a tutor for 10 years now. My students enjoy coming to my house, looking out at trees in the garden as we work; it's a helpful and calming place to be. Online tuition is popular too; I started online tuition in 2020 and have had the first students come through, successfully, to GCSE having only met online from year 7 to year 11. The online students like the fact that I am local. I have often helped a student through GCSE and then they have continued through with me at A level, and again have achieved top grades.
Norfolk is a great place to live and going to the beach or hiring a canoe are definitely highlights for me. I have a grown up family and now a grandchild too, so being together as a family is very special.
I was born abroad, in the Far East and as an adult I lived in France for 9 years. I have friends of all nationalities and know what it is like to live and thrive in another culture.
I obtained my PGCE Secondary Maths at the UEA in 2006 and since then I have been employed at two top level schools with large A level Maths departments. I was a 6th form tutor advising and helping with Personal Statements and all aspects of the university application process. I taught maths to all ages from year 7, GCSE, IGCSE up to year 13. Since 2013 I have taken up tutoring from my home and have had great success with my GCSE, IGCSE and A level students. I have also helped some graduates who had difficulty taking numeracy tests for Nursing, PGCE and Business Management. I have been providing online tuition via zoom since January 2020 and use a camera to show my written work as well as the usual computer screen for my face. I am presently offering a mixture of online and in person with some students preferring to stay online, especially as bad weather kicks in along with winter colds.
I have a plan of what I am going to cover in a particular session but am flexible and will quite often scrap that in favour of going over a particular aspect that my student found difficult that week. I have several resources at my fingertips so am able to respond to particular needs. Students have often commented on my ability to explain clearly and build up their confidence, so they leave the session ready to tackle that particular topic.
Having covered the ground work for GCSE, IGCSE and A level students, we spend time working through exam style questions from past papers.
