I absolutely love the subjects I tutor but appreciate that not everyone else does, so I focus on building a rapport and boosting enjoyment as a way of raising a student's attainment by increasing their feeling of reward and determination.
I worked in finance in the City for five years before re-training as a teacher at the University of Cambridge. Since then I have taught in two high attaining day schools, tutoring alongside this until I decided to tutor full-time in order to offer students more of a personalised education.#/k#
The students I have taught have ranged in ability and enthusiasm from those who want to drop Maths as soon as they can, to those who go on to take Further Maths A Level or study Economics at University. For all students my aim is to maximise their enjoyment of the subject, boost confidence in their ability and provide the appropriate level of challenge to develop resilience and determination.
In our sessions we can review and revise material that has already been covered in school and extend beyond that where desired. I always try to share my thought processes when answering questions and welcome all answers from students, even the 'wrong' ones are incredibly helpful!
Lessons are usually an hour but can be more or less depending on the student's requirements. I tutor Maths up to and including GCSE and Economics A Level.
