I am a friendly and approachable individual who prides themselves on being able to teach in an engaging and innovative way. As a recent PGCE and English Literature graduate, I have had first hand experience taking most of the current GCSE content myself. From this, I have been able to develop my passion for literature. I wrote my dissertation on reading cinema and had several jobs working in the film industry prior to becoming a teacher.
Whilst studying at college I helped to teach international students basic English language, which is what first began my interest in teaching. Although I have pursued my creative passion for film and writing, I have recently qualified as a PGCE graduate and had two years experience working as a Secondary School English teacher. At secondary I taught KS3 and KS4 but have had some experience with A-Level English also. Currently, I am teaching the AQA GCSE English syllabus, A-Level Literature and A-Level Lang/Lit at an Ofsted Outstanding Sixth Form.
Recently 70% of my GCSE resit class passed their recent exam.
My approach to teaching and tutoring is to meet the needs of the pupil. I plan my lessons with a focus on the purpose of the lesson to motivate the pupils. I shape my lessons to the ability of the students, believing that every lesson or tutorial should be differentiated for the needs of the student. I have an immense knowledge of the subject and have an A* in English after taking the GCSE myself. Therefore, I have first-hand experience of the exam but also have a more modern and focused approach since I have gone straight into teaching from being a student myself. I always put the child's needs first and attempt to bridge any gaps in understanding as best I can, using methods that are specific to how each pupil learns.
I teach both GCSE and A-Level so I have a concise understanding of both language and literature and know exactly what it takes to be a level 9 student. I have recently had acceptance to train as an AQA approved examiner who will be marking papers this summer also, so I will be able to offer a focused, concise approach to tutoring.
