I finished my MSc in Political Sociology (Distinction) at LSE 1.5 years ago, during which I took a mix of theoretical and practical courses to create a well-rounded curriculum.
These modules included Contemporary and Classical Social Theory; Modern and Colonial History; the intersectionality of racism and capitalist exploitation; and Indigenous Latin American Studies, Environmental Sociology, and Extractivism.
I also took Qualitative Social Research Methods at a postgraduate level. I have experience with interviewing, ethnography, documentary film-making and audio-visual and thematic analysis.
I am a native speaker of both English and Spanish, so I’m happy to tutor Sociology, History, and Spanish.
I now work at a non-profit, where I am putting my academic knowledge into practice! We work with Indigenous communities to support their advocacy using participatory methods and storytelling.
I’m starting my tutoring journey, and I’m keen to bring my academic knowledge, professional experience and volunteering with teenagers to the tutoring sessions.
I have volunteered for PINE (Pluralism in Economics), an initiative promoting a more diversified, heterodox and interdisciplinary curriculum in Economics degrees. I joined PINE because I believe the way we study social problems shapes the way we tackle them. The initiative ultimately aims to move away from exclusively teaching neoliberal and classical theories.
I also have experience working with teenagers at an urban farm promoting sustainability and social integration in a highly segregated neighbourhood.
Having ADHD myself, I understand the struggles of being in an unsupportive academic environment.
Alongside tutoring Sociology, History and Spanish, I’m happy to help with essay writing, time management, and provide tips on how to cope with a stressful uni workload while having ADHD.
I want to share my love for learning with people who have previously felt that the education system doesn’t work for them, and I want to help disabled and neurodivergent students feel confident and empowered in their learning. I have received mentoring specifically tailored for people with ADHD during my master’s and my job search, and I know the potential benefits it can have when done right. I hope to bring these insights to my students! I make my classes engaging and adapt to the students’ learning styles :)
