My name is Shannon and I am a fourth year student at the University of Edinburgh studying a Spanish degree. I have just come back from living in Madrid where I studied at a Spanish university and completed an internship. I started learning Spanish when I was 13 from a tutor on this site purely out of my love for travel and Spanish music, but it has now become a part of my every day life with University, work and my social life. I personally have sat higher and Advanced higher Spanish exams only a few years ago, getting high A's in both and I can help you do the same. Whether you want to learn Spanish for fun, as I did, or you need some help passing an exam.
While in Spain my classes were revolved around Spanish as a foreign language and how to teach it. As my final project I created two units of a book intended to help Erasmus students learn Spanish at an A1 level. The book followed the the European Framework of Languages guide which I have come to know very well so can easily measure your language level and tailor classes based on it.
I also used to help at a Spanish club in my local town where I would teach Spanish to children ranging from ages 5 - 13. I also regularly help friends and family with Spanish writing assignments and practice for speaking exams.
My approach would be tailored to your needs.
You can start by telling me why you're learning Spanish. If it is for a specific exam (Nat 3-5, GCSE, A Level, Higher or Advanced higher) we can work on past papers together, work on your writing assignments, go over specific parts of the exam, work on vocabulary, grammar, speaking or anything else you don't understand or don't feel confident with.
If you would like to learn Spanish just for fun or to go travelling etc, the first class can be about determining your level of language and learning more about you to make the rest of our classes interesting, engaging and make sure they are at the correct level.
While living in Spain I made connections with people from a lot of Latin American countries and I have become accustomed to Spanish culture, so if you would be interested in any recommendations or want to learn about the cultural aspects of Spanish speaking countries, I can also help you with that.
