I am an Instrumental Teacher and currently a Head of Department in a Secondary School. It is important to allow students to develop awareness of their own particular methods of working and ensure that tutoring allows each individual to make the maximum progress.
I have been Head of Music in number of secondary schools for over 20 years. I have taught the Edexcel specifications for GCSE and A Level Music and Music Technology. I have a very good understanding of the BTEC qualifications and have designed a number of courses for students to follow. I have also taught GCSE and A Level Music following the OCR specification. I have a good awareness of the AQA specification but have not taught it within my school for a few years. I am currently Head of Music at a secondary school in Milton Keynes. I have also worked as a Peripatetic Instrumental teacher for the Northamptonshire Music Service and Bucks Learning Trust, and have provided one-to-one tuition for over 20 years.
I believe that the most important thing about teaching is allowing students the time and space to ask questions. It is important to me that every student gains a greater confidence in what they are studying and can apply the knowledge that they gain to different contexts. I believe that students learn through guided exploration, and this is particularly true of Music Technology. I am very confident with Sibelius, MuseScore and Cubase.
