I am an enthusiastic and motivated recent graduate from the University of St Andrews, where I achieved a First-Class Honours degree in Bachelor of Science (Medicine). I have a strong passion for learning and deeply value the role of education because of its ability to open doors to different varied opportunities. I am excited to further immerse myself into my medical studies during my upcoming placement years. Outside of academics, I enjoy reading, running and practicing calisthenics.
During my gap year before starting medical school, I worked full-time as a Year 6 teaching assistant in a primary school, where I supported students preparing for their SATs and 11+ exams, 1-to-1 and in small groups. Additionally, I delivered lessons in place of teachers regularly. This gave me a first hand insight into different teaching styles and how to tailor them to different individuals’ styles of learning. I develop a working relationship with the students to enhance their academic potential and enable them to enjoy learning. Alongside this role, I tutored GCSE and A-level students, helping them strengthen their academic performance and successfully gain admission to their preferred sixth forms, college or universities.
I help the student build upon the knowledge they have already acquired. Furthermore, I understand the importance of spaced repetition, as I have used it first-hand in my own educational journey, so it is essential ideas and concepts are revisited regularly. It is also necessary to learning from mistakes. I believe it’s essential to work through answers collaboratively with students and to review concepts at a pace that suits their individual needs to increase their confidence in their ability to answer questions when they are on their own.
