I am a highly qualified, enthusiastic teacher of French and English with a passion for teaching and sharing my love for the subject. I believe that my commitment to excellence, my creativity, my cultural awareness, my professional skills and my capacity to adjust to different requirements and tailor my resources and teaching to my pupils’ needs set me apart.
Whether you are interested in mastering conversational French, improving your grade for an exam, expanding your knowledge of the French language and culture, or just refreshing your knowledge of the language to be able to use it in your business or your travels, I have the right knowledge and methods to help you achieve your goal. Similarly, I can help you with basic, intermediate or conversational English, cultural knowledge or grammar input.
I am proud of my achievements as a teacher and I continue to feel passionately about my role as an educator. I have been teaching French at Secondary School level for the past 7 years, from KS3 to GCSE up to A Level and Adult Education Level. I believe that I have the expertise and the commitment to bring the best out of my pupils and to instill in them the confidence and the motivation that will help them achieve their goals. The excellent feedback that I received from both my students and my employers made me feel even more determined to continue to teach French with passion and dedication.
Between 2001 and 2006 I taught English grammar and literature in an Independent English Medium School In India. During the 5 years spent at Sahyadri I organised poetry and prose competitions and events for my students, I directed plays and supervised drama performances that have enhanced both my students' and my love and interest for the English language and culture.
My academic background (I have a BA in French and English and a MA in French Cultural Studies) provides me with the privilege of being able to assist and inspire capable students in exploring deeper aspects of the French and English languages and cultures as well as encourage them to become able linguists themselves. For adult learners my BS in Philosophy also allows me to connect my knowledge of French and English with broader aspects from History, Sociology and Philosophy.
As a teacher I set and expect high standards for all my students, making sure to constantly motivate and encourage them. I strive to keep the learner and the learning at the core of my practice. I am a supporter of personalized learning and I strive to differentiate my techniques to suit each individual’s needs and skills. I firmly believe that the use of ICT in teaching Modern Foreign Languages is very important. I enjoy creating and using various interactive resources on a constant basis for my lessons and I encourage my students to do research using the internet. I like using authentic materials whenever possible and in my frequent travels I always make it a point to collect up to date resources.
I have a friendly and approachable personality and I strive to create a relaxed, explorative atmosphere in my lessons that I believe is conducive to the best results. The cultural element is very important to me and I often use music, film, literature as well as other creative approaches to spice up my lessons and help my students not only improve their knowledge of the French or English language but also be equipped with a good understanding of the respective cultures.
