I have a Master's in Process Systems Engineering from Imperial College. Before this, I studied Medicine with Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. I have over 10 years of experience teaching Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. I have experience in 11+, 13+ and early years education and specialise in helping students gain admission to top private schools, Cambridge, Oxford, and Imperial.
First Class Honours Master's.
4 A*s in A-level Maths, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology and A* in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
10 A*s at GCSE.
I have been tutoring and preparing students ages 5 and up to gain places at top British private schools such as Eton, Wellington, Westminster, and Harrow and top universities like Cambridge and Oxford. My students are almost exclusively home-schooled with me as their primary educator until they are admitted to top schools. My experience spans over a decade.
Specifically, my tutoring experience with 11+ and 13+ applicants can be broken down into the following:
1. Early Childhood Education
I have experience in early childhood education, focusing on children aged 4 and older. This involved developing and implementing age-appropriate curricula that foster academic and social-emotional growth.
2.. Individualised Tutoring
I have provided one-on-one tutoring to students age 4 and older, customising learning plans to suit each student's unique needs and interests. This included working with introverted and extroverted students and adapting my teaching methods to fit their personalities and learning styles.
3. Teaching Approach
I implement the Montessori method, emphasising student-led learning, hands-on activities, and developing independence. I am also a proponent of the Reggio Emilia method which shares similar roots to Montessori but differs in that the educator is a guide and not a director. A combination of these two schools of thought has meant my students have been able to make much faster progress than their peers.
4. Creative Engagement
I have used creative projects and play-based learning to engage students, making learning enjoyable and meaningful. This included integrating subjects like Maths, Science, and English literature into fun activities and games.
5. Pedagogical Support
I have experience helping young adults navigate emotional challenges, using techniques such as mindfulness and emotional regulation strategies to support their development.
GCSE & A-LEVEL TUITION
Currently, I am taking on students for the new academic year. My lessons are reliable and once I take on students I am committed to teaching my students for the full duration of their course until they graduate with only the best grades. My students enjoy personalised study plans and exam technique revision is integrated into all my lessons to prepare my students for the new GCSE and A-level syllabus. You can download sample lesson plans and notes from my profile page.
I am familiar with every GCSE and A-level syllabus both domestic and international. I keep up-to-date with each exam board to ensure my students know exactly what is expected of them in their final exams. This is especially true for the most esoteric exam boards such as EDUQAS in Physics and Edexcel in Mathematics.
ENTRANCE EXAMS AND UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS
I provide university admissions help and support with entrance examinations to the top universities in the country:
The first week is crucial in building rapport and establishing trust between the student, the parents and myself. I would break my approach down into the following pillars:
Building Trust and Rapport: Spend time getting to know the student individually through casual conversation. Ask them about their likes and dislikes in school. Observe their interactions and learning preferences to tailor future lessons accordingly.
Assessment and Observation: Conduct informal assessments to gauge their current knowledge and skills in key areas like literacy, numeracy, and general knowledge for younger students. Observe their learning habits, interests, and any areas where they might need additional support. Formal assessment through a take-home assignment to understand the technical skills of older students.
Creating a Comfortable Learning Environment: Set up a dedicated online learning space that is welcoming and equipped with essential learning tools such as a whiteboard, notes, educational videos and progress reports.
Socratic Method: Implement the Socratic approach by encouraging the student to ask questions and explore topics through dialogue and inquiry. Use open-ended questions to stimulate their curiosity and critical thinking skills.
Involving the Family for Younger Age Groups: Collaborate with the mother and father to understand their educational philosophy and incorporate their insights into the learning plan. Involve the student in planning some activities, giving them a sense of ownership and excitement about their learning journey.
By focusing on building a strong foundation of trust, creating an engaging learning environment, and tailoring the approach to the student's unique needs and interests, I aim to give them the right foundation to succeed in their exams and achieve their desired goals.
