FORMER HEAD OF ENGLISH WITH 14 YEARS OF KS2-5 / LECTURING EXPERIENCE
Until recently, my ‘day-job' was as Head of English in a Middle School, co-ordinating the teaching and learning of over 500 students at KS2 and KS3. Prior to this, I spent several years teaching GCSE and A level English Language, English Literature and Latin and as a year 13 form tutor writing UCAS references and supporting students with personal statements. Before that, I was a university lecturer teaching BA students in English Language and Linguistics and spent many years working in my university's school's outreach team. This breadth of experience and subjects is what makes my tuition approach unique. Specifically, I know how to challenge my students and also have the foresight to prepare them for what is coming next in their education.
In short, my extensive subject knowledge and my personable approach makes me a sound choice for a versatile tutor for either academic or skills-based support.
My tutoring approach is flexible and is tailored to the individual needs of the pupil and/or their families. I try to avoid rote learning and instead prefer active and lively discussion with regular quiz-based assessment and varied activities. Though my specialism is English (particularly grammar and language), I have worked hard to develop resources for my other tutoring subjects targeted at particular age groups. I am passionate about sharing learning and in maintaining excellent communication with my pupils and their families in order to achieve the very best results. My commitment to detailed feedback creates happy students who are eager to learn. Detailed reports, online communication and worksheets/resources available upon request.
In summary:
■ Highly qualified tutor
■ Experienced in the development of high-quality educational resources.
■ Personal statement and interview training from a world-class university.
