Sophie

I’m a Cambridge History graduate with an MPhil in International Relations from the University of Oxford. I’ve also studied Philosophy and International Law at Harvard as their Joseph Hodges Choate Memorial fellow – a prestigious scholarship awarded annually to a single Cambridge student of ‘outstanding academic merit’.

After university, I spent much of my 20s working as a full-time private tutor in the Middle East (Oman and Jordan) which was enormously fulfilling. For the last 7 years though I've lived in leafy Wimbledon with my two adorable cocker spaniels, Lottie and Isla.

Tutoring Experience

Over the last 15 years I’ve built a full-time career in private tutoring, specialising in homeschooling placements where I take full responsibly for a student’s learning across all areas - which explains why I am able to deliver a very wide range of subjects! However, I am now keen to free up more of my time and move into hourly tuition.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is highly personalised, patient, and results-driven. I believe that building confidence is just as important as covering content, so I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, take risks, and develop genuine understanding. I tailor each lesson to the individual needs, learning style, and pace of the student, using clear explanations, carefully structured lessons, and regular feedback to reinforce progress. A key part of what sets me apart is the bank of bespoke resources I’ve developed over the years — from topic guides and practice papers to revision tools — designed to make learning both rigorous and engaging. Whether preparing for exams or supporting long-term homeschooling, I focus on developing critical thinking, subject mastery, and academic independence — always with a view to helping students achieve their fullest potential.
