I am enthusiastic about making good Science grades more attainable for students studying for IGCSE and A-Level. Aside for my passion for the Sciences and teaching, I like to hike and explore with my family. I’m a keen reader (‘Educated’ by Dr Tara Westover, is one of my favourite recent books) and I play classical piano. My happy place is to be outdoors with family in the sunshine enjoying a BBQ or hike!
I began my teaching career at 15 years old when I taught piano to 4 children in my village. I’ve always had a natural inclination to teach and after I completed my BSc in Chemistry I taught in a boarding school (St. Andrew’s School for Girls) in South Africa for a year. On my return to the UK in February 2013, I took up a position teaching Physics at a lead independent school in Surrey. I worked there as a Chemistry teacher from September 2013 to August 2021 and I’ve seen excellent A-Level and IGCSE results with my classes. I left this post after 8 years to spend more time with my young child and I have been tutoring online ever since.
I very much believe in the scaffolding approach to tutoring; providing support and guidance where needed but also encouraging my students to be organised, accountable and reflective in the learning process. It is my aim to increase students confidence in their ability to take on new information and apply it accurately. I provide a variety of revision skills that can be utilised across subjects. Factual recall is important but being able to apply knowledge to unknown situations is also vital for examinations. I strive to help students achieve these skills so that they can have more confidence to ask questions in their lessons, approach assessments in a prepared manner, and have autonomy over their learning.
