An experienced tutor, examiner and textbook author. I have worked for many years in life sciences research and marketing; this has given me a broad experience of the real-world application of chemistry and biology. I am a Chartered Chemist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. I set and mark A level Biology exams and mark A level Chemistry exams. I am now using the Zoom videoconferencing platform to offer online tuition as it has much greater functionality than Skype.
I have tutored privately for several years and have a proven track record in helping students achieve their full potential.
I focus on establishing a good understanding of the subject. This gives students a sound basis on which to build and develop their exam technique. For each part of the specification, I help students identify the key topics and use this to help them understand the difference between a correct answer that scores full marks and an almost correct answer that scores zero marks. My experience of the real-life application of chemistry and biology allows me to develop a context-based approach. This is particularly important now that all exam boards are emphasising application of knowledge over factual recall. I like to take a relaxed approach to tutoring as I find that communicating my love for and fascination with the subject inspires students to work harder and learn more effectively.
