I have been a teacher for over 20 years having taught in the State, International and British Independent sectors. I have a real passion for Biology and worked in Brazil for 6 years. I loved travelling around South America but as a Biologist and environmental enthusiast, I particularly valued spending time exploring the Amazon. I have been very lucky to have travelled across the world and worked as a Scuba Dive Instructor in Thailand shortly after the Sunami where my Dive Centre was involved with recovery and rescue.
Although primarily a Biologist and Environmental Science teacher, I have taught Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and PE up to GCSE/IGCSE.
I specialise in A-Level and IB Biology and Environmental Science and have excellent value added. I have worked as a Head of Department and Head of 6th Form.
My philosophy in education is that getting to know your students is the key to success. I believe in a holistic approach to learning and very much follow the mantra ‘what one person can do, another person can do’ it just might be that they haven’t been given the specific tools to achieve success… yet. Tutoring can often provide that additional link, motivation, confidence, and input of knowledge that can drive up attainment. You may not have managed to get the grade you want ‘yet’ but you can with tailored support from an experienced tutor.
I will initially work with you to assess your prior knowledge and understanding and then scaffold your learning to move you forwards. Throughout our sessions, I will challenge you to recall details of each topic and where possible make links to deepen your understanding.
I am a competent professional and an effective communicator, with a personable approach to learning.
