Drama has always been a passion of mine, first treading the boards at the age of 11. Since then I have played many lead roles on stage, developing my performance ability to a high standard. I have also learnt other crucial roles important to theatre including directing, sound, lighting, stage management, script writing and backstage roles, all of which I implement in my teaching to ensure all students have knowledge in all fields required for a successful performance. I also have an extensive directing CV, having directed many shows from straight plays to full scale musicals, some of which have won or been nominated for NODA awards.
I now own and run a theatre company in Essex, teaching these essential skills which they can implement in their school drama, ensuring successful results. This is in addition to staging various events including murder mysteries and stage shows at various venues around Essex as well as being cast as an extra in various films and adverts.
I trained as a Drama teacher, graduating in 1997. Since then I taught Secondary Drama for 20 years, heading a successful department for approximately 10 years. I am very proud of the results I continuously achieved with my students, not dropping below 92% A* - C over an 8 year period.
Whilst setting up my theatre company, I have kept my hand in the education sector by being involved in supply work at various school around Essex.
I am approachable, making students feel comfortable with their own abilities when taking part in drama. I also encourage them to ask for support when it is needed. I am very detailed with feedback and I often model so the student knows what they are aiming for in order to achieve. I identify areas that need to be focused on and work out individual plans to help the individual student overcome any hurdle they may encounter. I also monitor progress carefully giving advice on how to move onto the next level. All students can achieve in drama no matter what their ability, which has always been my philosophy and has clearly shown through my results.
