I am a qualified teacher with experience in teaching maths and science. I focus on motivation and relationship-building to get the most out of my students.
Teaching experience:
2024-2025 at The Ravensbourne School, Bromley, London. The school is a mixed ability comprehensive with a high proportion of children with special educational needs (SEN) and children from low-income families.
1990-1996 as a Senior Lecturer at the University of London. I taught students Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry.
Tutoring experience:
2017-2020. Private tutoring one-to-one. KS3, KS4/GCSE Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.
2019-2020. Tutoring at All Heads Recognized, South Norwood, London. Private tutoring one-to-one and group classroom tutoring. KS3, KS4/GCSE Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.
I follow the National Curriculum and can access the same resources that schools use. I am interested in the method of Bansho teaching, which simply means 'chalkboard' in Japanese. Bansho is a method of engaging children through problem-solving and discussion. It builds on prior learning and links to other parts of the syllabus so that lessons are not taught in isolation. I am trained in the latest teaching methods.
