Private Maths and English Tuition in Harlow

I tutor in both Maths and English at Primary or Secondary level, having taught in mainstream schools at both levels, including Maths at A Level.

Above all, I'm kind, friendly, gentle and personable. I'm a qualified teacher and have lots of experience teaching in the school setting. I've been tutoring professionally one-to-one since 1999 when I was a postgraduate training as a teacher. Learning is a passion of mine, as is the development of my students, whatever their age or ability.

I love children, and people generally, and want to see them succeed in all they do. I'm the father of a beautiful, strong, wonderful eight-year-old girl with a whole life of opportunity ahead of her. The joy I experience in helping her develop is the same joy I know when helping my students progress. The unrivalled reward that comes from seeing another person develop forms a large part of the person that I am. This is why I am a teacher - and a tutor.

Tutoring Experience

I have lots of experience teaching at Primary, Secondary and A levels. I've taught in various Secondary schools - my original teaching specialism was in Secondary Maths - and around 2015, I made the transition to Primary teaching out of a desire to input the whole child rather than focus on a specific subject.

Since then, I've taught in over thirty schools, in both permanent roles and as a supply teacher. Having seen so many different approaches to mainstream teaching, I've been able to take in the very best from them all, and that has informed and shaped my approach.

I have been tutoring since 1999, focussing on both Maths and English/Literacy at both Primary and Secondary levels, and Maths at A Level, including home school and adult learning. Many times, I've helped those struggling to gain the grade they need, and those who are already ahead to delve deeper into mastery, whether it be short-term, specific preparation for SATs, 11+, GCSE or A Level exams, or longer-term support to supplement their ongoing learning at school or home.

Tutoring Approach

Preparation for SATs, 11+, GCSE and A Level exams is my absolute speciality. I always tailor my tutoring to the individual, delving into their current understanding on each topic and gently but effectively guiding them into greater mastery. My passion lies in finding new, fresh and unique ways for learners to remember the things they learn, and in equipping them to explore and discover for themselves.
