I chose to take early retirement from full time teaching, but retain a passion for both Drama and English. Prior to that, I worked as an actor. In 2020 Illuminate Press published my book 'Designing Drama'. I have supported English and Drama students with GCSE and A level work for more than 5 years.
I have taught Drama and English for 20 years and held head of department roles in both subjects at different times during my career.
I have successfully taught English, Drama and English Literature at GCSE and A Level.
I am proud of the success which the vast majority of my students achieve. In 2023, all 9 of my students achieved 100% success rates in English and Drama for both GCSE and A level. For GCSE, 48% achieved grades 8 and 9.
One of my students included the following in her First Tutors feedback: "(Sue) ... knows what the examiners are looking for and how to achieve top grades".
I offer a very supportive and personalised service based on teaching students who have a wide range of learning abilities and styles. The mother of a student with dyslexia sent me a thank you card which included this comment:
"You've made THE difference. It hasn't just been your subject knowledge, you've given her confidence in her abilities and helped through tricky times. She has a lot of respect for you and I know has enjoyed working with you."
As a Drama teacher, I am happy to tutor those wishing to pursue acting or production at a higher level. I have experience of successfully tutoring students in preparation for auditions at college, university and drama school. I also enjoy the challenge of assisting students develop their writing skills for terminal examinations at GCSE having worked as an examiner for AQA. In 2020/21 my book 'Designing Drama' was published. It is being bought and used by the teachers and students for 3 exam boards .
As an English teacher, I pride myself at building confidence in students as well as developing the wide range of skills required by the current curriculum.
I am honoured to be working with increasing numbers of neuodiverse students.
