I am a fully trained teacher with over 35 years experience of teaching Maths to university level, numeracy and literacy to special needs students (including Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADD/ADHD, Asperger's and Irlen Syndrome) and creative learning/memory techniques/mind mapping/study skills.I have also become one of Tony Buzan's first ever 12 Licensed Memory Instructors in the world and one of a small number of Think Buzan Licensed Instructors in the field of creative learning techniques (including mind mapping). I have also trained as a dyslexia specialist and have had 14 years experience of developing strategies to support students of all ages with dyslexia and dyscalculia. I am passionate about helping each individual to develop greater confidence in their studies and to achieve their potential and goals and use a variety of strategies in my tutoring which are tailored to a student's individual needs.
The prices quoted do not include travel to the tutee's home and are the base prices for tuition at my house. Unless in the immediate vicinity of my home, a charge is added for travel costs; this is dependent on the distance to the tutee's home.
I have taught/tutored for over 30 years and have been a Head of Maths for a number of years. I have tutored students from primary to adult for Maths (including SATs, 11+, Common Entrance, GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, Further Maths A Level, adult GCSE Equivalency Examinations, Maths Psychometric Examinations for job selection, Maths content of undergraduate degrees in Engineering and Economics, Maths content of various HNC and BTEC courses, adult numeracy, dyslexia/dyscalculia support and in the approaches to learning developed by Tony Buzan (mind mapping, use of iMindmap software, memory skills, creative thinking, study skills, presentation skills for study/work, planning skills, etc). I can also provide planning and presentations skills tuition for business users. I am a senior examiner for both GCSE and A Level Mathematics.
My approach is not just to deliver the facts but also to ensure students' previous misconceptions and gaps in knowledge are addressed - I 'talk' Maths as well as teach it, as skillful questioning and relevant discussion can give the student the confidence to apply their knowledge in a variety of situations. Each student is an individual and this is at the heart of my approach to their learning - e.g. notes I give are tailored to an individual student's learning needs. I also use a number of creative approaches in teaching maths.
An additional travel cost may be added to the stated fees depending on where the student lives and the time/distance involved in travelling to the student's home. Prices listed are for tuition at my home in person or online.
