I graduated from St Andrews University with a first class degree in Psychology. I also achieved an A* in A Level Psychology in 2018 so I can still remember the process of revising and sitting the exam making it easy for me to relate to the students. I have always loved Psychology because I am fascinated by humans and love to explore why we are the way we are. I am very keen to help out as many younger students as I can and I'm able to adjust to your specific needs, everybody learns in a unique way! I find that viewing the content in lots of different formats and manipulating it yourself is the best way to ensure you consolidate it, as well as keeping yourself interested. Outside of my studies I love art and sewing and spend my free time up-cycling thrifted clothes or drawing and painting.
I have been tutoring for three years now and have experience with multiple reputable companies including MyTutor and Oppidan Education. I have experience teaching students between the ages of 9 and 18 across a range of subjects including 11+, interview skills, GCSE science and A Level Psychology. Psychology is my specialty and where my personal interest and passion lies. I have helped students throughout the learning, studying and exam process and have experience with several different Psychology exam boards.
I always familiarise myself with the particular specification to understand what the exam board is looking for, and tailor my tutoring accordingly. I always strive to encourage the students to set their own achievable but also ambitious goals which I help them work towards. I will work with the student to select areas they need to focus the most time on and then will arrange my lesson plans to target these areas. I make the sessions as interactive as possible, constantly checking the student's understanding by asking questions giving the student exercises to work through to encourage them to take ownership of their learning. By including a variety of activities, tasks and games I aim to make lessons not only effective and memorable but fun and exciting. If needed, I also provide general studying tips to help them to work more efficiently outside of our lessons. If they have an interest in the subject beyond their syllabus, I can provide ways they can further challenge themselves independently to maintain and cultivate their intrinsic motivation. I will keep track of progress by going over previously covered topics briefly to check understanding as well as getting the student to explain concepts in their own words.
