I am a psychology and counselling graduate so wanting to help people has always been goal of mine. Since becoming a TA, I have been inspired to help students with their learning and to be able to provide students with additional support that they may not receive in school is incredibly empowering. I want to help students succeed and I wholeheartedly believe that I can support their needs. Now working as a teacher, I have a direct insight into what the students need to do to succeed and built on their knowledge outside of school. Even though my degree is in psychology, I did sociology for GCSEs and A-Levels so I will be able to implement my knowledge from that as well.
I previously worked as a teaching assistant with students ranging from 11-15 years old and all with different needs so am I able to understand the needs of SEND students and prioritise the needs of the children. Each student learns in a different way so adaptability is one of the key components about my lessons. I currently teach psychology so I am able to directly implement what I know into my tutoring which would benefit the tutee.
Based on my experience with other teachers and through my interventions, my preferred method of teaching is one that would focus on building a rapport with the students and focusing on making the lessons not only enrich their learning but their lives.
