I thoroughly enjoy working one-one with students because I recognise the benefits that this type of provision provides both in terms of improved skills and overall confidence. I often receive comments on my calm and patient approach and I aim to build a good rapport with each and every student.
My experience of teaching English spans well over two decades both in Further and Secondary education. I have worked as an English teacher in Further Education colleges and more recently as an English Intervention Tutor in local secondary schools. I mainly focus on preparing students for their GCSE English Language and Literature exams and have an excellent record of improved grades. In addition to this, I specialise in improving Literacy levels for both adults and children. I have also worked as an examiner for a number of exam boards; the expertise and knowledge I have of exam criteria has been hugely beneficial to my students.
I create activities and tasks to suit all needs and engage students in the learning process in order for them to become independent learners. In addition to this, I will set targets for students to reach allowing for monitoring of their progress. As feedback is an essential part of learning I focus on giving it clearly and effectively, acknowledging strengths and areas for improvement. Undoubtedly, this feedback helps students progress towards their final goal.
