Hello, my name is Tom! I am a recent graduate of the University of Oxford studying English Language and Literature. Next year I will be pursuing an MPhil in English at the University of Cambridge. I achieved a distinction in my first year examinations and 59/60 in my ELAT admissions test (the top of the year). I also achieved all 9’s and A*s in my GCSE’s (English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Advanced Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Italian, Spanish, Geography, History and Latin), as well as 3 A*s for A level (Spanish, History and English). Outside of academia my main interests are in writing, film and philosophy, as well as tennis and cycling.
I have privately tutored a student in her English Language and Literature GCSEs, taking her from the predicted results of a 6 and a 7, to the final results of two 9s. I have also privately tutored 3 students on their ELATs for Oxbridge and all 3 received offers.
My teaching approach is tailored around the student. I find with humanities subjects some students find different methods of teaching more helpful. Whether is be through practicing close-reading, essay technique, or even just moving through mark-schemes together, I find that a robust knowledge of the whole system of an exam is the best way forward.
