I have been teaching in a successful village school in Nottinghamshire for 8 years. In my spare time, I compete in long-distance running to a national standard and enjoy watching football.
I have been teaching for over 8 years now, spending time across key stages 1 and 2. For the last 6 years, I have been teaching in year 6. I have a subject specialism in maths and I am the maths coordinator in my current school, providing me with a wealth of subject knowledge and experience in teaching the entire maths curriculum. I also have experience delivering the English curriculum in KS2 - in particular year 6. Across maths and English, the year groups I teach have received scores consistently above the national average.
I am a strong believer in using concrete and pictorial methods to ensure children fully understand different mathematical concepts before progressing to abstract methods. Furthermore, I strongly believe in exposing children to a range of mental and written calculation strategies to ensure children can calculate quickly and accurately. I believe that if children can calculate fluently they are able to solve increasingly complex problems. With regards to English, I believe it is important children to develop a passion for reading and are exposed to a wide range of high quality literature.
