I've been tutoring for just over 10 years. I am currently available for tuition face to face in Bournemouth and Zoom tuition too.
I was a teacher of Religious Studies for over 20 years and am now working in a self-employed capacity and for the local authority as a personal tutor. As well as tutoring RS A level and GCSE, I also English for foreign students.
I have a relaxed and accepting approach to people and hope this informs all my work. My students enjoy working with me. I always encourage but am constructively honest.
I was a teacher of Religious Studies for over 20 years and was Head of Department for several years. I have taught and led departments in schools ranging from inner London to smaller rural towns. I have had success in turning struggling departments around where previously there had been a negative attitude to the subject among students. I can engage students and make the subject relevant and accessible to them.
My approach to tutoring builds upon my classroom experience of engaging students and helping them to make connections between ideas and see their relevance to everyday life. This helps demystify what can be difficult concepts. I work with the student starting where they are, and while I believe in stretching students, I also respect the challenges they face, and want to work with them and encourage them to believe they can make progress. Enjoying tutorial sessions, and gaining confidence as a result, is the best way to improve grades.
