I am an Assistant Principal of a Primary School in Grimsby and Year 5 teacher. I have been teaching for 10 years mainly in KS2. I have been working with children all my working life, from sports coach to event management to teacher to assistant principal. Such experiences allow me to enhance the learning opportunities for all children in a variety of contexts.
I have been teaching for 10 years mainly in KS2. Prior to teaching, I worked in sports coaching for 15 years so I enjoy bringing the active side of PE into the classroom. I have also worked in the secondary setting, but in a sports leadership environment giving me an insight to all key stages in education. I have worked in America and China, and those experiences also shape my teaching approach as I fully understand there is no single way to help every child, with a range of methodology proving most successful.
I believe in a firm but fair approach to learning with lots of opportunities for active learning and collaboration. In all lessons, I try to implement Rosenshine's Principles of Instructions by building upon children's prior knowledge and experiences. I fully believe a happy, confident pupil produces better learning behaviours and ultimately enhances progress and attainment. Therefore, my teaching pedagogy focuses around collaboration and a variety of different questioning strategies.
