I have several years of secondary teaching experience and - having just embarked on a Masters course - I understand the challenges of studying and writing essays. I enjoy helping my students make breakthroughs in areas that are stumbling blocks for them.
An English teacher with eleven years behind me in secondary teaching - I've worked with KS3, KS4 and KS5 groups and have experience of the new style GCSE so I can support tutees with this if need be. I can also tutor students to improve literacy skills and develop both academic and creative writing skills. I use formative assessment regularly in order to assess understanding and application of new knowledge and to adjust forward planning as appropriate. Prior to secondary teaching I taught and tutored adult learners in Italy, Sudan and London, covering grammar, conversational English and Business English either in 1-2-1 or small group settings. Unlike my secondary experience, which included Literature, this work centred around TEFL and English Language teaching.
I adopt a friendly, amiable and supportive approach to tutoring. I am interested, first and foremost, in what my tutees want to get out of sessions. I will make suggestions on what we cover and tailor the content of sessions to the student's needs or interests. The important thing for me is that my tutees feel comfortable to ask questions.
