Fully qualified primary teacher and former pupil of one of the UK's top independent schools, Godolphin and Latymer.
I have an MA Joint Honours in Spanish and Portuguese from Edinburgh University, studied Medicine for one year at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and then moved into a career in Education. I was commended as an 'Outstanding' trainee upon completion of a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education at St. Mary's University, London in 2012.
Over 12 years, I taught in state and independent schools in the UK, as well as two different British schools in Spain. I have worked with all year groups from Reception to Year 7, with a particular focus on Key Stage 2. I taught Year 3 for three years, bridging the gap from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2, including plugging gaps in Phonics. I am also familiar with the transition from Key Stage 2 to 3, having taught top set Maths in Year 6 and Year 7 English.
At my last school, Bristol Grammar, my leadership roles included Coordinator of Key Stage 2 English and Stretch & Challenge Coordinator. My role as English Coordinator included developing schemes of work and coordinating SEND support interventions for this subject. As Stretch & Challenge Coordinator, I mentored the most able children in the Junior School and organised enrichment opportunities for them.
Whilst I am happy to offer general Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 tutoring, I am increasingly focused on 7+ and 11+ entrance exams to independent schools, covering English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. To date my tutees have been offered places to: Bristol Grammar School, South Hampstead, Ibstock Place and Surbiton High.
As with whole class teaching, I aim to make tutoring as interactive and engaging as possible. All my tutoring is now online, utilising slides, online games and an interactive whiteboard. I carefully plan each lesson so that it is tailored to your child's goals, needs, learning styles and interests. I systematically work through curriculum objectives in order to gauge each child's strengths and weakness, establishing targets to work on and regularly feeding this information back to parents. My fee is pro-rated to a 50-minute session, which I find a more effective length with younger children.
