I currently work as Head of English at a secondary school 4 days a week and love teaching and the challenges it brings. I wish to use my skills to support others in the community with securing success in English Language and Literature.
I have been a secondary school English teacher since my PGCE graduation in 2009 and have also had roles as 2nd in English, Head of Year, Lead Practitioner for Teaching and Learning and I am currently Head of English in a secondary school.
Over the course of my career so far I have taught from year 7 to year 13 and have made boys under achievement and girls anxiety (affecting exam performance) a personal focus. I am also an examiner for a major exam board (summer 2024 will be my 5th summer series marking English Language Paper 2) and have also completed assignments for a mock marking service which includes marking mock papers and writing a summary report to support teachers with next steps.
My teaching approach has always been one of consistent high expectations for all learners; when you believe that a child can achieve, and support them in removing the barriers in their way, they thrive. I am patient and focused and expect students to work as hard as me - their success will be theirs, and the confidence and skills learnt from that will carry them on to further learning experiences which I think is very important.
Each student is different and will have different barriers to their success. Once I have been able to assess what these barriers are, and the time frame we have together, a personalised plan would be created for the student (with regular feedback) to ensure that they are successful with their goals.
