I am a secondary school History teacher with over 10 years experience teaching in London schools as well as previous experience working in international schools in Spain. I love history for its own sake, but teaching history to secondary school students allows me to build up those skills so well engineered in history, such as a global outlook, problem solving and high- level literacy, which equip students for the modern world. I particularly enjoy tutoring history, as this gives me ample opportunity to discuss topics in detail and enter into debates which fuel students' learning; moments which are often missed in the classroom. As a bilingual speaker raised in a multicultural household, tutoring Spanish allows me to use those skills I have gained as a Spanish teacher and living and working in Spain, to inspire students to be passionate hispanists and create continued links between Anglo and Hispanic speaking countries! Tutoring Experience

I currently teach history in a high achieving secondary school in London up to and including A-level. The guiding, teaching and marking of history coursework also forms an important part of my responsibilities. I have extensive experience teaching and marking both AQA and OCR curriculums at GCSE and A-level and am well versed with the academic teaching of history at these levels and beyond. I am currently responsible for teaching multiple exam classes, both at GCSE and A-level, as well as extracurricular responsibilities.

As a native Spanish speaker I also previously trained and worked as a Spanish teacher, again at KS3, GCSE and A-level, and am happy to tutor in this capacity as well. I was previously responsible for leading teaching at KS5 and am therefore fully versed in preparing A-level students for their Spanish speaking exam and understanding the requirements and skills to guarantee success.

Prior to teaching in the UK I taught English as a foreign language in an international school in Spain. I taught towards the Cambridge English Language exam and gained experience both teaching English language to classes ranging from primary to A-level as well as preparing students for their individual speaking exams.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to teaching is firstly to equip students with confidence and a love of learning. Students learn best when they are confident in themselves and I know the best way to develop this in history is through a thorough understanding of historical content which is both fun and motivating. I focus on teaching and learning strategies which carefully consider the way the brain accumulates information over time, which must be repeated and frequently tested to guarantee results. In this sense I am also able to demonstrate to students and those at home their ongoing progress. This builds confidence and resilience which is then effectively built into exam technique. This technique is fundamentally based around essay skills where I use techniques which have been developed over years of specific teaching and learning pedagogy as well as a thorough understanding of exam requirements to foster success. Such approaches have proved successful in both teaching and tutoring and I look forward to continue using them in the future.
