Welcome! I'm a Cambridge tutor with a First Class Honours BA in Media, Communication and Cultural Studies with honorary credits in Education Psychology. I have been a full-time tutor for 8 years now and specialise in supporting students applying to the UK´s most prestigious institutions.

My greatest professional joy is seeing the students I tutor reach the goals that they have worked hard for and creating a rapport with them that lasts their entire educational career. The trust parents and students put in my tutoring services long-term is something I am very grateful for.

Tutoring Experience

I currently tutor students attending the Perse, Eton, the Leys and Hills Road College, as well as some renowned international schools. I also provide training and guidance to students applying to the aforementioned schools or any Russell Group university.

I have eight years of experience in preparing SAT, GCSE and A-Level students for their end of year exams in both English and German. I also offer language classes to adult-learners. I am on the recommended Business English teacher list for The Four Seasons***** Hotels and Resorts employees.

Tutoring Approach

My aim is to equip my students with learning skills they can apply for the rest of their academic career. Students will learn how to present ideas effectively within the given parameters of their exam, demonstrate reasonings and problem solving skills in a high-pressure environment and use their own talents and gifts to retain their individuality.

I am happy to assist with any kinds of concerns, questions or suggestions throughout the lessons, and frequently check-in with parents or teachers, if so desired.

Teaching across various different academic curricula (Austrian, Spanish-British, British, Australian, as well as both state and independent institutions), has allowed me to create a balanced blend of teaching methods. I am confident that all learners can achieve their goals through tailor-made and engaging lessons.

I decided to publish this review albeit riddled with inaccuracies.

Firstly, as for my pricing: What I charge is clearly stated on my FirstTutor account. This includes the fact that all prices refer to an hourly rate. Additionally, I always confirmed with Sophie (as I do with all my students) what the total cost of each essay would be before commencing the work. Sophie confirmed each time in writing that she was happy with it. This is evident since she asked me to mark two more of her essays after the first one. It puzzles me why Sophie did not choose to go with one of the other tutors on this platform who offer cheaper rates.

Secondly, timing: It goes without saying that no examiner takes less than two hours to mark a 35 mark essay (2-3pages). That being said, examiners do not provide detailed feedback phrase-by-phrase as well as for the essay as a whole. This too, takes considerably more time.

Thirdly, Sophie never asked to see my personal essays; she asked to see work from my other students. I do not routinely share someone else´s intellectual property. I did explain this to her.

Sophie K approached me to help her achieve an A* after being awarded a D for her coursework. I accepted her on the basis that she would be willing to put in the weeks of hard work and dedication that were needed. I recommended a phone call to discuss her goals and requirements so I could make a detailed lesson plan and suggested weekly lessons, and frequent essay writing support - all of which Sophie rejected. Instead, I spoke to her 3 times over the course of three months and marked three of her essays: As an experienced tutor, this is hardly enough to see real, consistent and significant progress. Sophie, I wish you the best in your academic career.

It is a regrettable experience. I am confident my loyal client base who I have supported consistently over the last four years with FirstTutors can vouch for my professionalism, skills and genuine desire to help any student on the way to achieving their academic goals.
