Easy to follow lessons with good repetition to learn key basics in the lesson.
Thank you for your kind feeback, Gareth. Much appreciated!

Very happy with Vivien. She supported and guided my daughter very well. I would definitely recommend her and use her again.

At first I thought Vivien's profile seemed promising. I chose Vivien to help me with my English Literature A-Level. There were many things I didn't like from the several months I experienced with her, which includes: her high tuition fee which is stated on First Tutors to be (£45) however I ended up paying £65-£70 per 2/3 page essay because Vivien likes to charge her tutees per hour - thats with a small discount apparently. The feedback was detailed but it was not helpful to me because she never referred to my exam board mark schemes and she was sometimes hypocritical with her feedback. She also took very long to mark these essays, it should not take 2 hours to mark a 35 marker when examiners take considerably less than that. Vivien took a while to reply to my queries and questions, sometimes three days or so. Thirdly I found it a bit suspicious that Vivien would not allow me to view her work, although she claimed to have written many Hamlet essays, she said she could not allow me to see them. Overall I made little progress and I think she is too overpriced for what she gives back, and I would not recommend.
I decided to publish this review albeit riddled with inaccuracies.
Firstly, as for my pricing: What I charge is clearly stated on my FirstTutor account. This includes the fact that all prices refer to an hourly rate. Additionally, I always confirmed with Sophie (as I do with all my students) what the total cost of each essay would be before commencing the work. Sophie confirmed each time in writing that she was happy with it. This is evident since she asked me to mark two more of her essays after the first one. It puzzles me why Sophie did not choose to go with one of the other tutors on this platform who offer cheaper rates.
Secondly, timing: It goes without saying that no examiner takes less than two hours to mark a 35 mark essay (2-3pages). That being said, examiners do not provide detailed feedback phrase-by-phrase as well as for the essay as a whole. This too, takes considerably more time.
Thirdly, Sophie never asked to see my personal essays; she asked to see work from my other students. I do not routinely share someone else´s intellectual property. I did explain this to her.
Sophie K approached me to help her achieve an A* after being awarded a D for her coursework. I accepted her on the basis that she would be willing to put in the weeks of hard work and dedication that were needed. I recommended a phone call to discuss her goals and requirements so I could make a detailed lesson plan and suggested weekly lessons, and frequent essay writing support - all of which Sophie rejected. Instead, I spoke to her 3 times over the course of three months and marked three of her essays: As an experienced tutor, this is hardly enough to see real, consistent and significant progress. Sophie, I wish you the best in your academic career.
It is a regrettable experience. I am confident my loyal client base who I have supported consistently over the last four years with FirstTutors can vouch for my professionalism, skills and genuine desire to help any student on the way to achieving their academic goals.
