Waqar tutored my daughter in GCE Advanced level Religious Studies and she has achieved grade A. Whilst there has been a lot of hard work involved, my daughter has enjoyed her lessons and Waqar’s professional approach to tutoring. Furthermore, she has found him to be an excellent, structured and highly experienced educator, with great skills and an ability to get the very best out of his student. Thank you, Waqar.

We were connected to Mr. Waqar through FirstTutors Website. He tutored our daughter for almost one full year (Year 13). Throughout this period, Mr. has been dedicated, punctual, provided a multitude of learning resources to our daughter, thereby making the subject more interesting. He has been easy to approach in event of any difficulties encountered and flexible, thereby accommodating pursuit of her other extra-curricular interest. He marked her work with positive and structured criticism helping her to consistently progress. He made a significant and positive impact on her learning of the subject, motivating her throughout and providing the right support for achieving the much coveted A* Grade in the subject.

Our daughter herself has written the following;

"After completing year 12 in 2016, I had to take a years’ break from education due to personal reasons. I commenced my studies this academic year at a local secondary school, however, they didn’t offer A level Religious Studies as a subject, hence we resorted to FirstTutor in the hopes of finding someone who specialises in teaching Philosophy and Ethics at A2 level. Due to my circumstances, I specifically needed a teacher with the resources to teach the old OCR specification, as I’d be sitting the legacy paper. When Waqar’s profile came up, we instantly got in touch with him, because by looking at his page, it was evident that his expertise would be vital for me to reach my target grade. Waqar’s patient teaching style and ability to break complex chapters down to simple, easily-understandable components is what helped me go above and beyond my predicted grade. At times, I admit I was a difficult student; Waqar would set me reading and essays, which due to my severe lack of motivation I rarely got done. He would give me gentle reminders to complete the set work, as well as drawing my attention to how much content there was that we’d need to get through. He was able to get the best work out of me despite me making the process more complicated. There were some topics which I really struggled with — such as ‘Meta ethics’. When I told Waqar, he broke it down for me and explained it so well, it actually ended up being one of my strongest topics, and was the question I chose to answer for my A2 Ethics paper. Waqar really helped me improve my essay style with his hypercritical marking and detailed feedback. He helped me polish my philosophy essays to literal perfection; I got full marks in my A2 Philosophy paper. It goes without a doubt that I would not have achieved the grade I did without Waqar as my teacher. Not only is he an exceptional RE teacher, he’s also a very compassionate person, he would ask me how my other subjects were going and pointed me towards the right direction for those as well. Waqar was very dedicated and committed as my tutor and would promptly respond to any queries I had via email — especially the night before the philosophy exam when I asked him a last minute question. Moreover, as I’m rather impulsive and stubborn when it comes to my studies, I decided that 2 weeks before my actual exam, I wanted to do a completely different topic — one which we had initially agreed to leave out. Though this did take both Waqar and my parents by surprise, he helped me learn this topic to its full extent and beyond in an incredibly short space of time. This topic did come up in the paper, and I got full marks in it. Waqar always encouraged me to read beyond the specification and provided me with an abundance of articles, newspaper clippings, videos, etc to compliment my studies. Though at the time I didn’t understand why so much extra material was necessary, in the end it really did pay off, as it helped add sophisticated, subtle points to my essays which would set me apart from other candidates. He also gave me some articles to read which he himself wrote, and these helped me build and strengthen my knowledge as well. Anybody who has Waqar as their RE teacher is incredibly privileged as he truly is an amazing teacher who gently but firmly pushes his students to surpass their potential and this is precisely how I got my overall A* in A Level religious studies with 100% in Philosophy and 87% in Ethics. This A*, alongside my other three A level grades (A*A*A) helped me secure my offer to study at Kings College London, University of London — a university which is incredibly competitive to get into and is ranked 2nd in the world in the area which I shall be going on to study. I highly recommend Waqar to any student who is studying RE and wants to do the best they possibly can. Thank you for everything, Waqar. You’ve made my difficult journey that extra bit easier and manageable. "

Waqar is a first class tutor. He understands current methods of teaching and is patient, hardworking and has the ability to communicate difficult concepts.
