Tutoring Approach

My Approach to Teaching and Improving Student Grades

When a new student joins my class, I begin by giving them a diagnostic test. This helps me identify any difficulties they may have in understanding the subject or areas where they may struggle to achieve good grades. Based on the results of this assessment, I adapt my teaching style to target their specific needs.

Step 1: Identifying Content Gaps

Some students may lack understanding in certain topics or subtopics. In these cases, I focus on teaching and explaining the content thoroughly, ensuring they gain confidence in these areas. Once they have mastered the content, I introduce past exam questions to help them practice and build their confidence in solving real exam problems.

Step 2: Providing Feedback and Suggestions

After each practice session, I provide constructive feedback on their performance, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. I also offer suggestions on how they can improve their grades and deepen their understanding of the subject.

Step 3: Challenging the Student

Based on the student's progress, I introduce more challenging questions from previous exams. This not only encourages the student to stretch their abilities but also motivates them to aim for higher grades in each practice session.

Step 4: Focusing on Exam Techniques

For some students, the challenge lies not in the content knowledge but in applying that knowledge effectively during exams. In these cases, I adopt a different approach: I focus on teaching them writing techniques that will help them answer exam questions more effectively. This may include strategies for structuring answers, time management, and ensuring clarity in their responses.

Step 5: Encouraging Motivation and Engagement

During each lesson, I motivate students by asking simple, thought-provoking questions. This keeps them engaged and encourages them to actively think about the subject, reinforcing their learning.

Step 6: Tracking Progress

Once the student is fully enrolled, I maintain a detailed progress tracker that monitors their development in the subject. This allows me to track their learning journey and adjust the teaching plan as needed to ensure steady improvement.

Step 7: Creating a Student-Centered Learning Plan

My teaching style is simple, yet highly effective. I engage students through interactive activities that build their subject knowledge and increase their confidence to tackle the final exam. Each student will have a personalized Scheme of Work (SOW) that outlines their learning path, ensuring that I can monitor their progress and continuously adapt my teaching strategies to meet their individual needs.
