Personal Description:
I spent 4 years completing my undergraduate degree in performance at the Royal Northern College of Music and went on to complete a postgraduate diploma which I achieved with distinction. During my time at RNCM I was awarded 2nd prize in the RNCM viola competition. Following this I gained a place on the prestigious Halle Leadership Scheme where I was fortunate enough to spend a year performing with the Halle and also receiving mentoring from their principal violist, Tim Pooley.
I regularly perform with the Halle, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, Liverpool Philharmonic and Opera North and enjoy balancing my freelance career with performing, teaching and outreach projects.
Outside of work, my hobbies include running, cooking and spending time with friends and family.
Tutoring Experience:
I have experience teaching 1-1 and also with large groups. I have taught at music services such as Sefton Music Service, Salford Music Service and the Zion Arts Centre and have also taught on the Pro Corda North Course, a chamber music course for young people between the ages of 8 - 18.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that everyone has the ability to be a good musician – with the right teacher to unlock your potential anything is possible! I also think that it’s very important that learning an instrument is enjoyable. I think of imaginative ways for my students to practice so that it doesn’t seem a chore and ensures maximum use of time. There’s nothing worse than practising for an hour and feeling you haven’t achieved anything by the end. Ultimately I think it’s important to structure the lesson to suit each student as every student will have a different goal. It is important to make sure it is their goal they’re working towards and not mine.
